Quantum dots are key elements for building quantum computers. The aim is to precisely control single electron spins in coupled quantum dots to define a quantum bit (qubit). We are pursuing this topic with dots fabricated in Si/SiGe and AlGaAs-heterostructures.
The mechanical degree of freedom on the nanoscale is applied towards sensor applications, signal communication, and for studying quantum-
electro-mechanic (QEM).
The work in this field focuses on developing measurement testbeds for ion channels, that is engineered glass chips with embedded electronic components.
